ACS nomination for Global Talent Independent (GTI) Program

ACS Defined:

  1. ACS is the peak professional association for Australia’s Information and Communication (ICT) sector.
  2. ACS is a recognized nominating Australian organization for Global Talent candidates.
  3. An ACS nomination will help strengthen your application.
  4. The Australian Government’s Global Talent Independent program (GTI) targets highly skilled and talented individuals and is designed to attract the best and brightest skilled migrants to Australia.
  5. The Department of Home Affairs invites the candidates who meet eligibility requirements to apply for a Distinguished Talent visa.

Requirements of this visa

Attestation to the applicant’s record of achievement in the field by an Australian organization or individual with a reputation in the same field as the applicant.

The Department of Home Affairs (DHA) will accept nominations from the ACS and considers the ACS as an organization with a national reputation in the following target sector groups under the GTI program:

  • Cyber Security
  • Quantum Information/Advanced Digital/Data Science/ICT
  • FinTech (candidates with a predominantly tech focus)
  • MedTech (candidates with a predominantly tech focus)
  • AgTech (candidates with a predominantly tech focus)

Phases in a Global Talent Independent (GTI) Program application nominated by ACS:

Phase-1 Lodge Expression of Interest with DHA

Phase-2 DHA will guide and send you a Global Talent Identifier

Phase-3 Create an ImmiAccount on the DHA website

Phase-4 Email ACS your CV assuring reason of you being an asset to the Australian tech sector

Phase-5 If appropriate, ACS will accept your case and request fee, further information and

may request an interview.

Phase-6 Submit fee, email details and documents to ACS

Phase-7 ACS will complete the form of nomination and letter making a case for you

Phase-8 Submit an application to DHA and await requests for further information

Way to Apply

Before Applying (Expression of Interest) (EOI)

Stage 1: Through the Global Talent contact form register an Expression of interest with DHA for consideration under the Global Talent program.

Stage 2: To Individuals who meet the program parameters, DHA will provide a unique Global Talent identifier.

It provides priority processing for a Distinguished Talent visa application.

Visa application Preparation

Stage 3: You can proceed with lodging a Distinguished Talent visa application, online via ImmiAccount. For that, you will need to reference your Global Talent unique identifier

Choose the correct visa subclass on the application form, when preparing/lodging your application. It depends on whether you are in or outside of Australia when you lodge.

  • Lodge a subclass 124, if you are outside of Australia at the time you apply for the visa.
  • Lodge a subclass 858, If you are in Australia at the time you apply for the visa.

You will be required to specifically address the Distinguished Talent subclass 124 or 858 visa requirements including:

  • Whether you are globally perceived, and your accomplishments are too uncommon and outstanding
  • Whether you are still prominent in your field
  • Whether your settlement in Australia will be a resource to the Australian community
  • Whether your contribution will be of benefit to Australia as a whole.

Stage4-7: ACS Nomination

  • You will need to be endorsed by a nominator who has a national reputation in the same field as you.
  • Email ACS at [email protected] attaching a detailed CV/Resume and clarifying the reason you are an asset to the Australian tech sector
  • You may need to provide further information and will be advised whether ACS can proceed with a nomination
  • If eligible, you will be asked  for fee payment of $500 and the following information:
    • Colour scan of passport bio-page
  • Evidence of Visa Invitation from Department of Home Affairs (if applicable)
  • Confirmation of which target sector(s) above you believe would apply to you

Further details to substantiate how you meet the following criteria (as per Step 5 above):

  • Whether you are globally perceived, and your accomplishments are too uncommon and outstanding
  • Whether you are still prominent in your field
  • Whether your settlement in Australia will be a resource to the Australian community
  • Whether your contribution will be of benefit to Australia as a whole.

A brief phone or video interview may also be required and a range of means may be used to investigate a candidates background.

You will be provided with a nomination support letter, presenting a case to the government for why you would be an asset to the Australian tech sector.

You will be provided with a Nomination for Distinguished Talent (Form 1000)

You will be followed up to track your success and may be offered other ACS support

After Lodging Visa Application

Stage 8: The Department of Home Affairs will contact you to action health and character checks and/or provide any additional information that they may require.
