CoE Now Mandatory for Onshore Student Visa Applications from 2025

CoE Now Mandatory for Onshore Student Visa Applications from 2025

Dec 22, 2024 | Blog

The Department of Home Affairs has announced a significant update for onshore Student visa applicants in Australia. Starting from 1 January 2025, Letters of Offer will no longer be accepted for Student visa applications lodged from within Australia. Instead, applicants must provide a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) at the time of application.

Key Details of the Change:

  • Effective Date: 1 January 2025.
  • Requirement: Onshore Student visa applicants must include a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) from their chosen education provider.
  • Invalid Applications: Applications lodged without a CoE will be deemed invalid, meaning they cannot be assessed by visa decision-makers.
  • Bridging Visa Impact: An invalid application will also mean that no Bridging Visa can be granted.

Applications Lodged Before 1 January 2025:

  • Applications submitted before 1 January 2025 with a Letter of Offer will not be affected by this change.

Why This Change?

This update aims to align the evidence requirements for both onshore and offshore Student visa applications, ensuring consistency across the system. By requiring a CoE at the time of application, the Department aims to:

  • Demonstrate a stronger commitment to study from applicants.
  • Provide greater certainty for Australia's international education sector.

Exceptions:

There is no change for:

  • Foreign Affairs students
  • Defence students
  • Secondary exchange students

What Should Applicants Do?

If you're planning to apply for a Student visa in Australia after 1 January 2025, ensure you have a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) ready from your educational institution before submitting your application.
