The Department of Home Affairs Australia conducted the Skill Select invitation round on 11thAugust 2018. 2490 invitations were issued under the Subclass 189 Visa which saw a rise from 1000 invitations being issued in July 2018. Applications selected were in the 70-75 points range.
10 invitations were issued under the Subclass 489 Visa with applicants scoring 80 points receiving the invite. There is no change in points compared to the round in July, as per the Dept. of Home Affairs News.
Pro-rata occupations had a longer processing time and most saw a drop in points with others remaining as is.

Points required for the Australian Permanent Residency Visa was increased from 60 to 65 points on 1st July 2018.
Since the points required under the Subclass 189 pathway is high, aspiring immigrants stand a better chance to apply under the State Sponsorship option (Subclass 190 Visa). Also, applicants under the Subclass 189 should have their occupation listed on the MLTSSL. However, for the Subclass 190 Visa occupations listed under the MLTSSL, STSOL and ROL are considered. Hence applicants have a greater chance of migration if applying under the State or Territory sponsorship.
The points score required for most states in regions in Australia is still 65. This is including, either:
- 5 points for State or Territory sponsorship
- 10 points for Sponsorship from a regional area in Australia
